Unstoppable Domains has announced today that it is launching .blockchain NFT domain names. The major Web3 platform for digital identity is launching these domains in partnership with the popular crypto exchange Blockchain.com. So what exactly is Unstoppable Domains and how will these new names work?
About the “.blockchain” names from Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com
Significantly, these are the very first branded NFT domain names from the platform. As a result, all 83 million Blockchain.com Wallet users will be able to get a free .blockchain domain from the Blockchain.com Wallet in the coming weeks.
For those who don’t know, Unstoppable Domains is one of the main providers of NFT domain names. For one thing, custom domain names give users ownership and control over their digital identity. In addition, these NFT domains (e.g. jane.blockchain) replace the long, complex wallet addresses that are the default in Web3. Thus, users are less likely to get their wallet addresses wrong when making transactions.
“With a .blockchain domain, our users can not only send and receive crypto as easily as they send emails, but own their identity in Web3,” said Lane Kasselman, Chief Business Officer at Blockchain.com. “Our partnership with Unstoppable Domains marks the first custom top-level domain (TLD) and gives us a unique way to share the .blockchain name with the millions of users of the Blockchain.com Wallet.”
Users will be able to pick up these new .blockchain names through the Unstoppable Domains website. What’s more, these domain names live on Polygon with no minting or renewal fees. In other words, once you buy an NFT domain name it’s yours forever.
Given how popular .eth addresses have become in recent months, it seems reasonable to expect a similar demand for .blockchain addresses in the future.
