Earlier this week, controversial NFT influencer Beanie announced a new free NFT P2E game called ‘End Game’. In a tweet on March 9th, Beanie said, “Kicking off free mint szn with this Putin inspired P2E from @look_labs”.
After the NFT community raised numerous questions about the alleged ‘free mint’, Beanie is leaving Twitter, again. Basically, all is not as it seems, and it now appears that the mint is not free for everyone. In fact, there is a whitelist, and that’s not all. It turns out you must hold another NFT to claim it.
To get your hands on one of these ‘free NFTs’, you must own a ‘Look Labs Game Key’. To get a ‘Looks Labs Game Key’, you need to purchase a ‘Green Pass’, which transforms into the ‘Game Key’. Meanwhile, a ‘Green Pass’ price is currently 0.64 ETH ($1646.90). So, at 0.64 ETH, that’s not free at all.
Of course, Beanie is technically correct. It is free, just for those with a spare 0.64 ETH, to buy a ‘Green Pass’. The NFT community has come a long way since last year’s mania and numerous scams. Now, thankfully, they are quick to question NFT projects that sound too good to be true.
Furthermore, many people spoke out about the free NFT claims by Beanie. Josh, aka @DegenNFTs, tweeted, “Sorry, Beanie, but you gave the impression that it would be a free stealth drop. You never once said it was tied to any other project or that you needed an NFT to claim. Let’s be real here.”
Finally, this latest Beanie saga highlights the importance of research when looking at new NFT projects.
