Splinterlands announced that the company raised $3.6 Million in a private token sale ahead of the upcoming launch of its governance token. The popular NFT trading card game secured investments from major crypto-native funds and ecosystem players.
The private round included the participation of blockchain heavyweights like Animoca Brands, Enjin, Polygon and Onchain Capital CEO Ran Neuner. Individual investors also contributed to the sale, such as the founders of Taiwan Mobile, Simplex and The Sandbox. VC firms continue to eagerly invest in blockchain-based businesses, proving that widespread adoption of NFTs, especially in gaming, is growing.
More about the Private Token Sale
The sale was based on the game’s native token, Splintershard or $SPS, built for its DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). Being an SPS token holder translates to better rewards and votes on actions within the playable ecosystem. Out of the total supply of SPS, 6.6% was reserved for the private sale, subject to a 10-month vesting period.
The company also welcomed two industry leaders to their Board of Advisory- Yat Siu, co-founder of Animoca Brands, and Aly Madhavji, Managing Partner at Blockchain Founders Fund.
Siu is confident that Splitershards will continue to shape the NFT Gaming Industry. He said, “It is a great honor to be involved in this project and help make the vision of Matt and Jesse and the entire Splinterlands team into reality. Spliterlands was among the first to recognize the enormous potential of blockchain gaming and NFTs. I very much look forward to Splinterlands’ future contributions to this movement.”
The token sale closed around the same time that Splinterlands marked another milestone. The game breached 150,000 players 3 1/2 after its launch. Jesse Reich, co-founder and CEO of Splinterlands, shared that “2021 is the best year in the company’s history and the business is booming. “
What makes Splinterlands Attractive?
Splinterlands already has more than 100,000 registered users, with 25k of them paying for premium membership. Moreover, the NFT game also had an action-packed June. The project opened the month by selling 150 000 virtual land plots. Then 2 weeks after, its new booster pack sale sold out fast, with 1.5 Million NFTs worth $3 Million making their way into the community.
In terms of features, the community is anticipating the full launch of Brawls 2.0 which is currently in the QA Environment. Brawls are large-scale tournaments in which Guilds fight together against other Guild.
