Sorare Introduces New Card Type: “Limited Card” NFTs

Aside from signing up teams left and right, Sorare has been busy developing a new scarcity through the newly launched Limited Card NFTs. The fantasy football game just added 1/1000 Yellow Limited cards on the platform. 

The Limited cards mark a new era for Sorare because this is the first time they have ever introduced a new scarcity. From three levels of scarcities, there will now be four for the 2021/22 Season. Players can now purchase Unique, Super Rare (10 Copies), Rare (100 Copies) and Limited (1000 Copies).

How to Start Using Sorare’s Limited Card NFTs

According to the guidelines, players can start using the Limited Card NFTs at Game Week 194. This way, Managers who want to participate in Division 5 will have a week to build their line-ups. 

Limited Cards can be played in the all-new Division 5. Thus, it will be available for Global All-Star, Global U23, Champion Europe, Challenger Europe, Champion Asia, and Champion America. Then, Sorare will open Division 5 in Global All-Star for GW194 and 195 and in all tournaments starting GW196.

Sorare also released specific rules for Season 5. Basically, 5 Limited cards are required then common or rares are not allowed. Then, the rewards will exclusively be Limited Cards and ETH will only be rewarded for Podium Places. 

Meanwhile, the rules and rewards of Division 4 (including thresholds) will remain unchanged for now. No Limited Cards can enter. 1 Common card is still allowed. Furthermore, the Special Weekly will remain for Rares, Super Rares, and Uniques. Sorare assured players that there might be the occasional Special Weekly event where they will allow one or more just like what they do for  Commons.

In a statement, Sorare explained that they decided to go with this set of rules because they want to do things prudently and protect the community. They promised to deep dive into data in order to ensure that the utility of Limited cards will not impact existing collections of players. Then, they will review rules for Common Card use in Division 4 once there’s enough data.

Prize Pool and Referral Programs

Just like the mechanics, Sorare is taking the conservative route for the prize pool. This means that for the first few Game Weeks, the platform will manually ramp up the number of Division 5 card rewards depending on how many eligible line-ups there are. This ensures proper scaling and that everything is consistent with the reward rations set in Division 4.

So when will Limited Cards join the Dynamic Rewards System? Sorare will activate this once they feel they have enough eligible line-ups and Managers taking part in Division 5. 

For now, players can take part in the Referral programs. Anyone who signs up after the launch of the Limited Cards will earn a Limited Card after 5 cards bought on the New Card Auctions. Anyone who signed up before will still earn a Rare Card for purchasing 5 cards.

In conclusion, 5 cards bought in New Card Auctions = 1 Limited Card for the referral and referrer. Sorare released a disclaimer that this set-up is only temporary. They said they are “working hard on a new and more exciting referral program where players can earn different card scarcities depending on the number of referrals they are making.

Sorare’s Next Steps

Sorare’s been working on this roll-out for the past 6 months. In a statement, the platform said that “This is one of the biggest milestones in Sorare’s history.” This is because it makes the platform more inclusive and accessible to ordinary fans.
