The World-renowned luxury British department store Selfridges is entering the NFT space. On January 28th, the Paco Rabanne NFT dresses collection is launching exclusively at Selfridges flagship store in Oxford St, London. They are the first-ever NFT for sale in their physical store. This is a groundbreaking moment for Selfridges as it enters the digital market.
However, with incredible luxury comes a cost and the Paco Rabanne NFT dresses range from £2000 to over £100,000. Consisting of twelve different designs with 56 NFTs available per design in the Selfridges sale.
Furthermore, several designs are part of Paco Rabanne’s impressive unwearable collection, which is fitting for NFT clothing.
Selfridges entering the NFT space is a great sign of how NFTs are doing. This is one of the biggest department stores in the world. Meanwhile, at 112 years old, it is lovely to see the department store taking a step into the digital future. Perhaps Selfridges will open a metaverse store one day.
The entire project collaborates with work from artist Victor Vasarely, featuring designs by Paco Rabanne. It is an effort to combine the familiarity of physical shopping and the digital fashion industry.
The NFTs are designed for the metaverse. Owners will be able to wear dresses in the digital world. Paco Rabanne states that the dresses will be functional across several metaverse platforms.
However, these Selfridges NFTs come with a twist. Some lucky customers are going to receive a physical counterpart of their dress. Incredibly, a few people are also going to have the opportunity to travel to Paris to receive a fitted replica.
Finally, the Paco Rabanne NFT collection is just the start for Selfridges. In fact, there are 1,800 NFTs in the upcoming exhibition.
