Political consultant and lobbyist Roger Stone is auctioning off a copy of a 1990s magazine cover signed by former President Donald Trump. This move by Trump’s longtime friend and associate is part of a larger fundraising campaign to pay for his legal defenses and medical bills.
The subject of Stone’s NFT move is a note on the cover of a now-defunct trade publication: Real Estate New York which reads: “To Roger, YOU ARE THE GREATEST!” If the bid exceeds $20,000, the bidder gets the physical version of the magazine. In addition, the winning bidder will receive a 1/1 digital copy in the form of an NFT.
In an email to POLITICO, Stone said he believed Trump signed the magazine in 1999 and that it was “indeed real.”
Roger Stone’s NFT Move
Artists, musicians, athletes, brands and franchises are leading the NFT boom. So why exactly did Stone decide to join the mix? He responded, “Between the cost of defending myself in 6 remaining merit-less but sensationalized harassment civil suits and the J-6 [January 6th] Witchhunt, my legal expenses are formidable. He added that the “cancer therapies not covered by insurance for my wife are also not inexpensive.”
Stone’s NFT offering is actually part of a larger auction for the Stone Family. Pete Santilli, a right-wing internet talk show host and a close family friend, is sponsoring and leading the initiative. So far, they auctioned off two copies of a Stone-signed 1968 Richard Nixon pamphlet, for $400 and $300, respectively. Then, a “rare Trump/Melania” poster depicting them as Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty pulled in $550.
As of press time, there are zero bids for Stone’s NFT offering.
Stone is not the only member of Trump’s circle to jump into NFTs. Former US First Lady Melania Trump launched her own NFT Platform! She will release NFTs in regular intervals exclusively on MelaniaTrump.com. Her maiden NFT offering, “Melania’s’ Vision,” features watercolor-style artwork of her own cobalt blue eyes.
Meanwhile, Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, sold his prison badge as an NFT. After pleading guilty to tax evasion and campaign finance violations, he recently completed his three-year prison sentence. Now he is back in the limelight for the merging of “art, technology and politics all into one.”
More About the Man
Roger Stone is once again in the spotlight because he recently received a subpoena relating to the Capitol attack.
He recently appeared before a congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol but said he refused to answer questions. He told reporters that he pleaded the 5th amendment on every question “not because I have done anything wrong, but because I am fully aware of the House Democrats’ long history of fabricating perjury charges.”
