In the latest metaverse news, Nintendo announced it has no intention to enter the space yet. They stated that until it can be determined how it benefits their customers, they will continue to explore their options.
Although it isn’t a definite no, it does appear that Nintendo is not quite ready to move forward in the space at this time. The news comes out of a weekly Q & A portion of last week’s financial results summary. At the time, there was a brief reference to the metaverse during the summary.
In the statement, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed the news directly. He said, “Right now, there’s no easy way to specifically determine what kinds of surprises and fun the metaverse can offer our customers. If we can find a way to take our “Nintendo approach” to the metaverse that many people can easily understand.”
From the wording of the statement, it would appear that Nintendo is keeping a close eye on the metaverse and the potential it offers.
The metaverse is expanding rapidly, and more big companies are entering the space each day. Although Nintendo is not joining at this stage, others most certainly are. Amongst the most prominent names are Adidas, McDonald’s, Microsoft, Facebook (now Meta) and more.
It is an exciting time to enter the metaverse space. If it continues on its upwards trajectory, it won’t be long before Nintendo reevaluates its position. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how the metaverse expands this year.
