Magic Johnson, the legendary basketball player, is launching a collection of NFTs. Earvin “Magic” Johnson is releasing this project on June 7th via NBA Top Shot. In total, there are 1600 NFT packs on offer, and they will contain some of Magic’s memorable moments as a basketball player.
Magic Johnson NFT highlights superb career
The basketball superstar is considered one of the all-time NBA greats and is a Hall of Famer. Magic won five championships in a long and illustrious career spanning three decades.
In fact, Magic played for the Los Angeles Lakers for his entire career, from 1979 to 1996. He won numerous team and individual awards whilst breaking numerous records. In addition, he is a 12 time NBA All-Star with three Finals MVP and League MVP records.
The NFT collection captures some of these iconic moments in NBA history and immortalises them on the blockchain.
Now, Magic Johnson brings his winning mentality and huge personality to the NFT space. “The anthology: Magic Johnson” NFT collection will give fans the chance to get closer to the star and also own a piece of ‘Magic’ history.
In a Tweet to his 5.2 million followers, he said, “I’m really excited to partner with @nbatopshot to release my first NFTs and bring some of my favourite moments from my career to fans everywhere.
The drop begins on June 7th and costs $1600 each. Significantly, 1200 of the total 1,600 Magic Johnson NFT packs will feature in an airdrop to people with a Top Shot score of at least 150,000. However, the remaining 400 are available to everyone, regardless of their Top Shot score or status.
Each NFT pack will contain one of four Magic Johnson moments. These are from the seasons when his team, the Los Angeles Lakers, won the NBA Championship title. In addition, there will be a Magic Johnson Moment NFT in either Rare or Legendary rarity level in every pack.
What is NBA Top Shot?
Created by Dapper Labs and in partnership with the NBA, Top Shot is a digital collectable NFT platform. It specialises in iconic moments in NBA history, and users get these NFTs through ‘packs’. The platform works on the Flow blockchain and began in July 2019.
Since then, it has become one of the biggest NFT platforms. Recently, despite a downtrend in the overall NFT marketplace, NBA Top Shot has set new records.
Significantly, this week, it has officially sold over $1 billion worth of NBA Top Shot packs on its platform. This is an astonishing amount of money and highlights how big this platform is. It is undoubtedly one of the biggest in the NFT ecosystem.
More and more athletes are joining the basketball NFT project. Now, Magic Johnson is adding his NFT collection, and his fans can see how the NBA Top Shop platform works.
