Recently, Kanye West openly shared his thoughts about NFTs and how they can change music forever. His positive take on NFTs led the community to believe that the iconic rapper, record producer, and fashion designer is dropping an NFT Collection.
Unfortunately, West quashed all hopes when he released a definitive answer on his Instagram.
Kanye West Dropping an NFT Collection: Is it Happening?
Kanye West couldn’t be more clear with his response. His statement reads: “My focus is on building real products in the real world. Real food, real clothes and real shelter.” He also made an open request to stop asking him to release an NFT Collection.
The rise of NFTs paved the way for creators to monetize their work. So aside from artists, musicians greatly benefited from this new technology. As such, high-profile artists have been dropping their own NFT Collection. Some have become prolific collectors like Snoop Dog, Post Malone and Justin Bieber. As one of the most influential musicians of all time, there’s a huge clamor for Kanye West to join the space.
Fortunately, it looks like the multi-Grammy award winner is not closing his doors. Towards the end of the statement, he playfully teased fans to just “ask him later.” So to all his fans, keep your fingers crossed!
Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2005 and 2015, so when he recently talked about NFTs, it generated a ton of press mileage. West asserted that NFTs could be an advantageous asset to pay creators fairly. In addition, he noted how NFT creators could continue to profit from every use and sale of their work.
Unofficial NFT Collection
Despite not releasing his own Collection, Kanye West has been the subject of several NFT projects. A new anonymous NFT collection featuring Kanye West just dropped. The NFT collection called “The Books of Ye” comprises various artists and programmers. It is a sequel to a 2015 project called “Books of Yeezus.” Basically, the team replaced every citation of God in the Bible with the mention of Kanye West.
Last October 2021, Chicago-based artist Jason Peterson sold his latest Kanye West mural as an NFT.
