2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics was historic for many reasons, from the Philippines receiving their first-ever gold medal to skateboarding finally being treated as a professional sport. There have been NFTs relating to skateboarding before, like the first-ever skateboard NFT collection, but not one quite like this.
Yuto Horigome is a Japanese professional skateboarder who began skating at Tokyo’s Amazing Square Murasaki Skatepark when he was seven years old. He has competed at his fair share of competitions from multiple X Games, Dew Tour and Street League Skateboarding, finishing most of the time first or second.
Horigome competed in Tokyo’s 2020 Summer Olympics, where the 22-year-old won first place; in the city, he learnt how to skate. Receiving 37.18 points in total, Horigome smashed the competition by consistently landing his tricks down a 12-step, three-rail staircase. Horigome conducted his trick, Nollie 270 noseslide and won a gold medal, this created a new skateboarding trend on YouTube. Now they want to capture this with their skateboard NFT.
Called ‘The Golden 22’, it specifically captures the winning moment and winning trick. Digitising the iconic move which landed him on the cover of Thrasher magazine. Without forgetting, of course, the first-ever gold for skateboarding in the Olympics. The team at FWENCLUB designed the digital sculpture. They want to show that skateboarding is not only a sport but an art with their skateboard NFT.
The NFT is metaverse ready and can live in any digital world.
