Following on from some of their rivals, Emirates has become the next airline to “fly” into the world of NFTs. They’re set to release tokens soon, which aren’t fully confirmed yet. Their NFTs are set to have properties of collectibility and utility.
About the NFTs, and other Airlines who have NFTs
For Emirates’ NFTs, there is not much info out there. Although it is clear that the business is looking forward and are excited about the space. “We are excited about the prospects in the digital space of the future. And are committing significant investment in financial and resource terms, to develop products and services using advanced technologies that will deliver on revenue, brand experience, and business efficiencies”, said Sheikh Ahmed, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.
Emphatically, the airlines’ first project is currently underway and will be released in the coming months.
For airlines, NFTs have great potential. They could sell them to customers and in exchange, provide unique experiences, airline tickets, and more. airBaltic, a Latvian airline was the first in the industry to step into the space. In November 2021, the airline issued limited NFTs. These showed a unique Airbus A220-300 as well as a piece of art of the city, Kuldīga.
About Emirates Airline
Emirates is a Dubai-based airline that was launched in 1985 and is the biggest in the United Arab Emirates. Known for its luxury experience onboard, the firm is known to have had tickets that have sold for over $20,000, for some of their top first-class flights, YouTuber Casey Neistat explored one of these experiences.
The group ran over 3,600 flights per week from its hub at Dubai’s airport, pre-COVID. It flies to more than 150 cities in 80 countries across 6 continents with its fleet of nearly 300 aircraft.
