Elon Musk: Twitter NFTs are “annoying”, according to the Billionaire

Twitter’s decision to incorporate NFTs has angered a few, namely Elon Musk. A recent update allowed NFT holders to use their NFTs as profile pictures. Unfortunately, billionaire Musk deemed the update as “annoying”.

Social Media hasn’t come completely to speed with NFTs and a big change was Twitter’s recent update. They allowed Twitter blue subscribers on iOs  the ability to put their NFT as their profile picture. The NFT sits in a hexagon rather than the normal circle, making it visually obvious that it is an NFT. When one clicks on the image, a description pops up about the piece of art with details about ownership. Tesla CEO branded this move as “annoying”.

Elon Musk is vocally skeptical of NFTs and  Web3, he is holding no prisoners. The Tweet from Musk was a simple screenshot of Twitter’s infographics introducing NFT profile pictures, simply explaining the update. Following that, he shared the image with the caption “this is annoying” letting us easily know his stance on the topic. 

Musk believes that twitter could be using their time for more good. Foreseeing that that company is spending too much wasted time on engineering resources for NFTs. In Musk’s mind this time would be better spent attempting to curb spam activity on the popular social media platform. 

Whilst Musk is right that time to limit the amount of spam on Twitter is an important task, it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Social media platforms have enough resources to conduct multiple projects from assessing spam to integrating new technology into their platform.
