The Digital Currency Group (DCG) has partnered with Jamestown to bring the Times to Decentraland as part of its New Year’s Eve celebrations, named One Times Square, starting on the 31st at 11:00 PM EST.
A Virtual Time Square in Decentraland
Jamestown owns the real-life Times Square building. The building is a 26 square foot structure located at the heart of Times Square, it will be one of the many virtual attractions as part of Decentraland’s MetaFest 2022.
MetaFest 2022 will be the virtual equivalent to Time Squares New Years Eve Ball Drop. The event will feature NFT art galleries, entertainment and even music.
Similarly, virtual billboards will stream the real-life Times Square, connecting the physical with digital versions. Users can attend the virtual New Years celebrations by signing up to Decentraland and finding the following coordinates: (-106, -119).
Due to the pandemic, Times Square has had to restrict the number of attendees to its New Year’s celebrations. As a result, Jamestown sees huge potential in virtual real estate and its many use cases. In addition, president of Jamestown, Michael Philips, had this to say about the Metaverses:
“Whereas physical real estate is largely limited to people with geographic proximity, the metaverse can give people around the world meaningful access to places through immersive virtual experiences.”
