Blockchain interoperability has always been a major issue within blockchains, and now between metaverses. The ability to transact between different platforms represent one of the limiting factors towards blockchain’s mainstream adoption. As such, Deadfellaz came up with a new solution: metawrapping. Essentially, this gives Deadfellaz owners the ability to use their respective NFTs within different metaverses, while preserving their unique traits.
Subsequently, Twitch streamers can even stream live using their respective Deadfellaz. The team will drop more details regarding this feature in their next update.
What is Metawrapping?
Metawrapping is similar to the concept of wrapped cryptocurrencies such as wETH. Wrapped cryptocurrencies allow the use of a coin within another blockchain. Prior to this rollout, the DF team has been purchasing virtual real estate within multiple metaverses. For instance, The Sandbox, Decentraland, Webb3, NFTWorlds, and Nifty Islands. Therefore, it’s only logical that all the DFs can travel between these different metaverses.
Since then, the team has created different versions of each of the 10k Deadfellaz NFTs. They are Pixel, Voxel, 3D Chibi, and 2D Deadfellaz. This allows each of the 10k owners to express themselves within the community that they most regularly connect with. This holistic approach introduces an extremely functional NFT utility, one that I think other projects should adopt.
Deadfellaz has partnered with Props Labs to introduce PFP metawrapping to the original 10k collection. According to the announcement, each version of the NFTs contain the exact same traits as the original NFT, just in a different style.
Previously, NFT buyers need to check which metaverses their NFTs are compatible with. With metawrapping, this issue will practically be eliminated. Besides, the team is planning to use this wrapping method as new Web3 spaces surface in the market. This gives buyers a high level of flexibility and freedom of choice. It also prevents any buyer’s remorse. The current plan is to launch the feature at the end of 2022.
Deadfellaz’ Next Move
The company’s development initiatives are far from over. In the following months, they will focus on bridging the Web2 infrastructure towards Web3. For example, several traditional gaming studios, Live2D Avatar Animation studios, Comic studios and Media production studios. However, the individual use cases within each platform will be different.
One thing to note is the minting cost. Although there will be gas fees associated with the transaction, the team is making it as little as possible. Basically, all versions of each NFT will travel together during each transaction. For example, if someone sells their Deadfellaz, all the wraps that come along with that DF will be transferred to the recipient as well.
Through metawrapping, owners can now express their Deadfellaz NFTs in a form that does not dilute the original collection. The feature creates a stronger bond within the existing community by introducing smaller communities within each metaverse. Knowing that they share a similar interest, users can now find like-minded buddies among owners of the 10k project.
