This weekend, the crypto community has joined forces to support Ukraine. From Ether to BTC and USDT, users from all across the world have donated over $13 million so far.
Accordingly, the wave of donations started with a tweet posted by the official account of Ukraine. As soon as the country’s wallet addresses were confirmed, donations started pouring. Soon enough, many big names of the NFT sphere joined the movement too, including influencers Pak and Zeneca.
The crypto community joins forces for Ukraine
On February 26th, the official Twitter account of Ukraine announced that it’s “now accepting cryptocurrency donations.” The short tweet included the country’s wallet addresses for BTC, ETH, and USDT.
To begin with, most users decided to check the veracity of both wallet addresses to avoid getting scams. Moments later, Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov also shared the message, confirming the initial tweet.
Notably, the Vice Prime Minister’s tweet also included a third wallet address dedicated to USDT (trc20). This one comes at the request of Justin Sun, the TRON DAO founder, who asked for official confirmation.
Over $13M donated in crypto so far
In just three days since the official tweet post, Ukraine raised a total of approximately $13 million. This sum of money comes from over 17,451 transactions involving all three wallet addresses, data from EtherScan, Blockchain, and TRON reveals.
The list of donors includes many big names of the NFT space too. For example, Twitter NFT influencer and collector Zeneca donated 11.11 ETH via his NFT community, ZenAcademy.
Meanwhile, renowned digital artist Pak donated a whopping 670 ETH, or about $1,875,906, to support Ukraine. “The whole Vanguards treasury of Censored now goes to human rights,” Pak tweeted on Feb. 26th, along with the transaction evidence.
Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin supports Ukraine too
As many crypto community members continue to donate to Ukraine, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin shows his support too. During the past few days, the entrepreneur has been sharing useful resources and initiatives to help the Ukrainian people.
In a short, concise message tweeted on February 24th, the Ethereum founder wrote “Reminder: Ethereum is neutral, but I am not.”
