Cheetah Cub Coalition is the latest NFT project to get the delist treatment from OpenSea. To sum up, the NFT project took to Twitter earlier today to protest the decision. In particular, the fact that it came with no explanation as to why it happened. With that said, OpenSea did relist the project not too long after.
Cheetah Cub Coalition delisting continues a worrying OpenSea trend
For some background, Cheetah Cub Coalition is a collection of 7,100 cute Cheetah Cub NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Evidently, Cheetah Cub chose the number 7,100 to reflect the number of cheetahs still left in the wild.
Indeed, the core mission of the Cheetah Cub Coalition is to support wildlife conservation efforts. To that end, the NFT project adopts one cheetah for every NFT it sells through its partner charity, Born Free. The project has sold 1,126 NFTs so far.
This makes it that much more unfortunate that OpenSea delisted the Cheetah Cub Coalition NFTs seemingly out of the blue.
Luckily for Cheetah Cub Coalition, OpenSea responded to its tweet in less than an hour. Its reply was short and sweet: “Hi there – sorry for the confusion, this collection has been reinstated.”
However, many NFT projects delisted in the same way haven’t been so lucky. To list, Caked Apes, CryptoPunks V1, and even individual users faced down OpenSea recently over its often mysterious delistings. As a result, it’s led to questions about OpenSea contributing to centralization in the space and added to the many criticisms the platform faces.
While things worked out for Cheetah Cub Coalition, it will be interesting to see if OpenSea’s continued delisting of projects poses any more issues down the line.
