NFT game Axie Infinity has hit a new milestone! The Ethereum-based game has crossed 1 billion in sales, according to CryptoSlam! data.
Reportedly, Axie Infinity is the first NFT game to surpass $1 billion in sales. The game’s latest achievement is a testament to its growing popularity. While Axie was launched in 2018, it went viral in recent months.
Axie Infinity sales: What the numbers say
At the time of writing, tokens from Axie Infinity have been traded through 2.5 million transactions. Currently, the Pokémon-inspired NFT game has 330,288 buyers and 956,431 owners.
Remarkably, a fifth of the game’s sales took place in the past seven days alone. Moreover, three-quarters of the sales were closed in the past month, with 241,928 buyers purchasing around $755,000 worth of Axies. According to data, while Axie Infinity’s sales soared 24.24% in the past week, it increased a whopping 202.11% in the last 30 days.
Axie Infinity is followed by NBA Top Shot, with over $675 million in all-time sales (at the time of writing). With $662 million in sales, CryptoPunks is third on the list.
Moreover, Axie Infinity is also seeing an increase in adoption. Just days back, the game’s developer Sky Mavis announced that it has surpassed 1.02 million daily active users (DAU). According to the figures shared, over two-thirds are Android users and the majority of the rest are Windows PC users.
In early June, the game’s DAU was around 110,000. This means that in two months alone, it has witnessed an 830% rise in users.
The Biggest Play To Earn Game
Axie Infinity is the biggest Play-to-Earn game and has been going viral in recent months. Inspired by the Pokémon universe, the game allows players to battle NFT collectible characters called Axies against each other. Furthermore, it enables users to earn profits by buying, breeding, and selling these cute digital pets.
However, not everyone can play the game. Every player has to own a team of three Axies to play. These Axies are sold as NFTs and cost around $200-300. Axies come with various stats like Health, Morale, Skill, and Speed. Just as with Pokémon, these stats determine how an Axie fares in a battle.
The game is the brainchild of Vietnamese startup Sky Mavis. The game studio developed Axie Infinity with an aim to create a future where work and pay go hand in hand. Last year, the developer launched the game’s governance token called Axie Infinity Shards (AXS). The token allows users to vote on key decisions and currently has a market cap of $2.6 billion.
Furthermore, early this year, the game switched to the Ronin sidechain to minimize gas fees and network congestion on Ethereum. Nonetheless, with the increase in user demand, Axie has had its share of troubles too. For instance, last month, the game’s server had crashed due to high user demand.
