A cricket NFT auction by CricFlix, in partnership with RevSportz and Fanatic Sports, has fetched a total of $335,950. Australia opener David Warner’s SunRisers Hyderabad jersey stole the show with the highest bid of $30,000. Warner wore the jersey during his team’s 2016 IPL win. A range of other iconic sports memorabilia was also part of the auction.
“Authentic cricket memorabilia that included artefacts from historic moments, the auction received huge response with USD 335,950 (more than ₹2.5 cr) being collected,” said Anwar Hussain, Co-Founder of CricFlix.
What NFTs were in the Cricket NFT auction?
One of the standout NFTs in the cricket auction was a bat signed by the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team. It fetched a staggering $25,000! Led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the team had won the ODI World Cup after 28 years.
Meanwhile, an ardent fan of the iconic cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, took home the digital rights to the sports star’s collection. The NFT collection, focusing on his 200th Test match, included a signed match jersey, special commemorative cover and autographed match ticket. The entire collection was sold for $40,000.
Another highlight of the cricket NFT auction was a collection of 23 rare artefacts from global cricket. This included souvenir and team autographs of India’s maiden 1932 England tour. Additionally, iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar’s concert for the 1983 World Cup-winning team fetched $21,000.
The exclusive, invite-only private NFT auction took place at 4:00 pm IST on December 24.
Sports NFTs are quickly becoming a highly sought after category in NFTs. Sports icons like Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, Tennis star Naomi Osaka, four-time Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Simone Biles, and more have released their NFTs.
