Recently, the French video game franchise – Ubisoft announced its entry into the NFT world. The Ubisoft NFTs are available as Digits which are playable at upcoming games. But the step was not welcomed by French Trade Union.
So, what’s the issue all about. Keep reading to know.
Why the fans and Trade Union do not like Ubisoft’s NFT plans?
Basically, French Trade Union – Solidaires Informatique represents some workers of Ubisoft Paris. Where they criticized the decision by stating blockchain technology as “a useless, costly, ecologically mortifying technology”.
Plus, they added that it is not only the Union but fans also who criticize Ubisoft’s NFT plans. Accordingly, the fans feel the addition of blockchain brings no improvements or benefits to the games.
Apart from the technical side of Blockchain and NFTs, Solidaires Informatique expressed their concerns about the “Shady” NFT creators and Scams within the industry. Since there’s no particular law taking care of the crypto industry, the agitation is relevant to the workers.
Moving along, the Trade Union listed all the problems with Blockchain technology such as dividends, subprimes, financial derivatives, crises, speculations fast trading, money laundering etc.
They also think the integration of NFTs will make video games less enjoyable.
What’s lies in the future
Regardless of Trade Union’s concerns, the management is still trying to go ahead with the plan.
Meanwhile, Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft held a video conference to show his support for the NFT project.
Besides, Electronic Arts CEO, Andrew Wilson also described NFTs as the future of the gaming industry.
In spite of all the disapproving statements from the Trade Union, it seems Ubisoft is fully committed to its plan and will continue with the decided steps.
