As one of the first major celebrities to embrace NFTs and the NFT community, it is fair to consider Paris Hilton as a pioneer in that regard. And while Hilton’s endorsement came early, there has been no shortage of famous celebrities to follow her lead.
Without a doubt, celebrities have the ability to make mainstream audiences aware of NFTs in a way that even many brands cannot. Thus, they are an important part of the growth of the NFT industry. So let’s take a look at a few of the famous faces who have jumped on the NFT hype train in recent months.
Paris Hilton’s Embrace Of NFTs Came Earlier This Year
Since shedding her on-screen persona as a simple-minded heiress and socialite, Hilton has used her significant clout to put light on her many business ventures and investments.
Luckily for the NFT community, NFTs are something that have caught Hilton’s attention this year. As a matter of fact, Paris Hilton has been something of an ambassador for NFTs.
To illustrate, she’s had a high profile Tonight Show appearance, a DJ set at the Decentraland Metaverse Music Festival and invested in NFT marketplace Origin Protocol. All in the span of a few months. Overall, it’s fair to say that Hilton has endeared herself to the NFT community up until now.
Given that, it comes as no surprise that more and more celebrities seem to be rushing to catch the NFT hype by the day. Let’s check out some of the biggest names, sorted out by their respective fields. It’s important to realize that while some are newer to the space, one or two may have been in NFTs since even before Paris Hilton’s entrance.
Musicians Have The Biggest NFT Presence Of All Celebrities So Far
Pussy Riot
The punk rock, activist, art collective have fully embraced NFTs. Their love of a medium that celebrates art, community and decentralized organization shouldn’t be too much of a surprise though. Given, of course, that the group has a long history of taking a stand against the government of their home country, Russia. So far the group has their very own community on Discord, as well some NFT collections and 1-of-1s.
Steve Aoki
The superstar DJ was one of the earlier celebrity NFT Collectors. Even so, it seems that he is really stepping up his involvement as of late. Recently he has been adding even more big NFTs to his collection, getting an estate in The Sandbox, and even launching his very own marketplace for Solana NFTs.
Is Hip-Hop The Best Represented Genre In NFTs?
Snoop Dogg
The rap legend and all-around entrepreneur is a mainstay in the NFT community. He’s dropped his own NFT collections, and has a successful ongoing collaboration with The Sandbox. Oh, and let’s not forget the fact that he may or may not be the NFT whale and Twitter influencer, Cozomo de’ Medici.
Jay Z
The hip-hop mogul brought NFTs some serious mainstream attention when he changed his profile picture on Twitter to a CryptoPunk. Although, he did go on to sell an NFT of his own at Sotheby’s shortly thereafter. Indeed, the man who is one of rap’s most respected pioneers led a newer wave this year. Namely the move that sees celebrities buy a well known NFT shortly to get the community’s attention before launching one of their own.
Ja Rule
Fyre Fest infamy notwithstanding, the rapper-turned-investor still demands attention for his many business moves. After all, the NFT communities that the star joins tend to be much happier than they are critical. So far, Ja Rule has proven himself as a big time collector supporting many projects, especially the Gutter Cat Gang. He even has his own marketplace for selling physical art as NFTs, called Flipkick.
Many NFT Projects From Celebrities Come From The Sports World
Steph Curry
The NBA superstar made a lot of noise when he joined the Bored Ape Yacht Club earlier this year. The star not only made his BAYC NFT his Twitter profile picture, but he was also spotted hanging out in the project Discord around the time. Most recently, the star is putting out an NFT project to celebrate his record-breaking achievement in the NBA.
Shaquille O’Neal
NBA legend Shaq gets a lot of jokes for just how many things he endorses. To be sure, the hall-of-famer/TV host/DJ certainly does have many things going on at any one time. Well it appears that NFTs have become his latest interest. He picked up a Creature World NFT in September, much to that community’s joy. In addition, he released a collection of his own just a few weeks later.
NFT Loving Celebrities From Film & Television
Reese Witherspoon
The major Hollywood actor and producer made a big entrance when she joined the NFT space a couple months ago. Soon afterwards, Witherspoon landed herself a World of Women NFT avatar. Since entering the space, she has continued to share NFT and crypto info via her twitter. All in all, she is largely celebrated for how she has participated in NFTs so far. Especially when it comes to supporting women in the space.
Elijah Wood
The actor famous for playing the best known Hobbit has been quite involved with NFTs. Most notably, he was an early supporter of the popular Deadfellaz collection. Since then he has continued to support a number of NFT projects and artists. Although he might be a little busy at the moment celebrating Lord of The Rings’ 20th anniversary!
Quentin Tarantino
Of all the film directors that we would consider full blown celebrities, Tarantino is a somewhat interesting choice to embrace NFTs so quickly. Nevertheless, the prolific writer-director did attend NFT NYC earlier this year. Evidently this was to promote the news that he would be dropping NFTs based on his beloved film, Pulp Fiction. Be that as it may, we’ll have to wait and see if Tarantino gets the NFT intro he hoped for, due to him being sued by his former distributors over the NFT collection.
