It’s official! In August, 15,000 more Gotchis will roam the Gotchiverse because the community gave its seal of approval to the Haunt 2 Proposal. 80%, which represents the majority, will be auctioned off through the newly launched Bid-to-Earn auction model. Meanwhile, 20% is being allocated to promotions and giveaways.
Last July 11, we reported that the core team proposed a second Haunt to release additional Gotchis in the ecosystem. The first Haunt happened in March 2021 when the game dropped 10,000 portal NFTs on a first-come, first-serve basis. It was a massive success because the project sold all the NFTs in less than 60 seconds. However, a lot of the potential buyers missed out on the chance to buy. This time, with the bid-to-earn model, the opportunity to buy will not be dependent on how fast users click.
Haunt 2 Proposal Highlights
The core team is delighted with the decision of the community DAO to approve the proposal. In previous statements, they’ve made their stance clear. That is, having a hard cap on Gotchis will limit the potential for increasing adoption. Moreover, increasing the supply is a prerequisite for some of the future features like play-to-earn.
Aside from the increase in supply, the Haunt 2 proposition adds new collateral types, leaderboards, and rarity farming. In addition, there will be 3 new collateral themes: WBTC, MATIC and WETH. Adding rare NFT wearables increases the performance of the gotchis, making them more valuable. Thus, the proposal will also introduce 2 exclusive new eye shapes.
It is worth noting that the core team added an amendment in regards to the Rarity Farming Season 2 Rewards Cap. The developers were inspired by a very active thread on the DAO discussion forum. In essence, the DAO expressed that they prefer to decide later about the Rarity Farming Rewards Cap. The developers happily obliged to table this item and submit it for voting separately.
Marching Forward
The developers behind Aavegotchi have made it clear that they have a different stance on rarity than other NFT-based games. They do think digital scarcity has its place but it’s not the main goal of the project. According to the statement, “Our vision is for far wider adoption of playable NFTs, and the first step to achieving that means leaving the scarcity memes behind and focusing on being able to offer meaningfully unique experiences to more people.”
The management is pursuing a carefully balanced approach concerning the Aavegotchis from the first Haunt. The project is retaining unique attributes for Haunt 1 Aavegotchis while also expanding awareness and adoption of playable NFTs and DeFi.
According to the core team, “Aavegotchi has much more to offer than a profile picture.” This is apparent from the last 2 major roll-outs of the project: Bid-To-Earn and Haunt 2 Proposal. The focus is to increase utility and tap into the full potential of NFTs and DeFi.
The soft launch date of the Haunt 2 Bid-to-earn auction is in mid-August. Then, the project will launch the raffle shortly after.
