A Beeple and Louis Vuitton NFT game has launched. The project went live Wednesday 4th August 2021, marking what would have been the legendary fashion designer’s 200th birthday.
Whereas the majority of NFT drops involve auctions, in this instance the NFTs are part of an art-themed playable experience for Apple and Android. Logically titled ‘Louis: The Game’, players must take brand mascot Vivienne to Paris on a journey mirroring the one Vuitton took, walking from Jura, eastern France, to the nation’s capital at the tender age of 14.
How Does ‘Louis: The Game’ Work?
The Jura to Paris trek was 292 miles, certainly no mean feat on foot. Players will have the chance to collect 30 NFTs while en route. Ten of these were designed by Beeple, one of the best-known artists working in non-fungibles.
There are seven fantasy locations to explore along the way, inspired by London, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, and — as you probably guessed — Paris, for Vuitton’s birthday celebrations. Gamers must also keep an eye out for candles, which unlock 200 postcards, each containing anecdotes and trivia relating to Vuitton’s life. It’s the second time the fashion house has been involved in video games, having previously partnered with ‘League of Legends’ for its in-game clothing.
It’s a Beeple Louis Vuitton NFT Collection, but Who is Beeple?
If you keep a regular eye on NFTEvening, Beeple should be familiar by now. Real name Mike Winkelmann, among other things he produced the iconic piece ‘Everydays: The First 5000 Days’. This is often regarded as the most recognisable NFT artwork to date. It sold for $69million at auction, setting a record at the time.
More recently, we reported on how the artist — ranked as the highest paid in non-fungibles — now has a new role as co-f0under of a fresh NFT platform. We.new focuses on iconic moments, hosting sales of tokens linked to human achievements in sport, music, art, and fashion. Beeple also just announced he was branching out into holographic NFTs with software developer RNDR. The fully immersive works of art can be used on both holo displays and mobile AR.
Fashion and the NFT Space
Although not to the extent of music, the fashion world has been quick to explore the NFT space and start to make use of the opportunities it offers. Givenchy dipped a toe in for Pride month in June, one of the most prominent examples. Meanwhile, effectively turning the tables, one of the most popular metaverses, Decentraland, has begun allowing users to create and mint their own wearables for avatars. The idea is that everyone can now be a fashion designer, even if it is only virtually.
