Decentraland launched the Beta version of the in-world builder tool to encourage user-generated content. This major feature allows LAND owners to decorate and manage their scenes directly in the virtual world all in real-time.
The virtual reality platform considers this as a revolutionary new phase in the creation experience. Before, users need to build their environment and then upload or deploy it in the world. However, with this new tool, they would be able to create and view scenes as they build.
Despite being the first iteration, the beta version of the in-world builder would already provide all the minimum features required to create, edit and publish content on a land parcel. It will eventually replace the current builder once it contains all of the same features. So in the future, users would be able to build their own malls, buildings or mansions.
Exploring Decentraland’s In-World Builder Tool
The new In-World Builder tool has three new features: Builder Panel, Builder Editor and Catalog.
The Builder Panel is the gateway to the new functionalities because it is the one-stop creation hub. Basically, it allows users to start creating scenes or editing those that have deployed on the LAND. To get started, users simply need to navigate their own LAND or any LAND they have access to deploy content to. Then, they need to click the block button in the bottom right-hand corner of the in-world screen.
It’s important to note that the migration process hasn’t started. Thus, users can only edit scenes created with the new Builder, not those created with the SDK.
The second one is the Builder Editor which allows creators to assemble new scenes directly in the world. This real-time feature is the true star of this roll-out. It may require a bit of a learning curve because it uses a different navigation system compared with the rest of the world. For example, left-click command is for interacting with the scene and its various entities. Meanwhile, the middle and right mouse buttons adjust the camera perspective.
Lastly, users can explore a new catalog interface. It is displayed on the right side of the screen and lists all entities that can be implemented in a scene. The items are divided into categories, asset packs and favorites. Plus, it is an expandable catalog and can be viewed full screen. This way, it will be easy to shop and navigate.
What’s Decentraland been up to?
In the past two months, Decentraland attracted both mainstream and crypto media mileage because of its new partnerships and records. Just two weeks ago, reported that Coca-Cola launched its NFT wearables in Decentraland. The branded NFTs pulled in over $575,000 in Sales. Last month, a patch of virtual land sold for close to $1 Million which is a record purchase for the platform.
Decentraland is playing the long game for user-generated content and items. Two days ago, the platform’s marketplace started supporting primary sales for user-created wearables. This means that users can now see and buy wearables on first-time offers. This is expected to generate volume and user engagement.
