In a staggering deal that is now one of the most significant Bored Ape NFT sales ever, a Trippy Mega Mutant Bored Ape has sold for 2300 ETH ($3.91 million). The breathtaking deal happened on Tuesday night and is part of a broader sale of items totalling upwards of $4 million. The new owner of Mutant Ape #30005 is @Lior.Eth after buying the Ape from the NFT collector, @0xb1.
Trippy Mega Mutant Bored Ape sells for a record fee!
Whilst there is no official confirmation of the sale, the new owner Lior.Eth all but confirmed it on Twitter. In response to a tweet about the price, he said, “People going wild over trade, trying to price it. You won’t find much on-chain. We valued the mega at 2.3k ETH. Trade included various assets.”
Why is the Mutant Ape so valuable?
The visually stunning Mutant Ape #30005 is precious for several reasons. Firstly, it is perhaps the most extraordinary looking Ape in existence. With Trippy fur that seems liquid and escaping the Mega Mutant Ape, it is truly a unique and bizzare NFT.
Secondly, it is because of how this Mutant Ape came into existence. The Trippy Mega Mutant Ape was created using an extremely rare Mega Serum.
In February, the original holder of the Trippy Mega Mutant Ape #30005 @0xb1 created the mutant using one of the last remaining M3 serums.
The Mega serum is the Holy Grail of the NFT ecosystem
In August last year, The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT holders were all airdropped an NFT called the Bored Ape Chemistry Club. There were 10,000 in total, and these NFTs consisted of a serum designed to transform your Bored Ape.
M1 is the most common serum; there are 7,500 of these, with a further 2,492 M2 serums. M1 and M2 serum transforms the Bored Ape, but it retains some original traits.
However, The M3 serum, also known as the mega serum, completely and unpredictably transforms a Bored Ape. Only eight M3 serums exist, and now only one remains unburnt. The last sale of an M3 serum was 1,542.069 ETH ( $5.8 million) in January.
