Kanye West filed for 17 trademark applications related to metaverse and NFT for his Yeezus brand. Is the famous rapper dropping an NFT collection soon? Here is everything we know about Kanye and his interest in NFTs.
What is Included in Kanye West’s Trademark Applications?
The applications dated May 27 are accessible through the US Patent and Trademark Office. It mentions “blockchain-based non-fungible collectibles, assets, currencies, and tokens.” Furthermore, it includes “online retail store services featuring downloadable movies, videos, television, music, entertainment, digital art.”
There is no official announcement if there is an immediate intent to use the trademarks and how Kanye’s brand will use them. He filed them on a 1B basis. Basically, there’s an intent to use the trademarks in the future. However, applicants don’t have to specify when that will be.
The trademarks are in contrast to 1A applications, which are filed when it is already in use.
Ye’s Opinion on NFTs
Last January, Kanye West said that NFTs can change music forever as NFTs can be useful to pay creators fairly. Additionally, he stated how NFT creators could profit continuously with every use and sale of their work. This led everyone to speculate that the famous rapper might drop his NFTs.
However, in February, he said that he won’t be dropping any NFT collections soon. Through a now-deleted Instagram post, Kanye said, “My focus is on building real products in the real world. Real food, real clothes, real shelter. Do not ask me to do an NFT.”
Then last month, he filed metaverse and NFT trademarks. Did Kanye change his mind? We’ll find out in the future.
