The web3 company Aave released a social media platform similar to Twitter using the Polygon blockchain. The new project called Lens Protocol uses NFTs for a unique web3 social experience. Users can mint their own profiles as NFTs, monetize their content, and more.
What makes Lens Protocol different from Twitter?
In essence, Aave’s new social media project will give users full ownership over their social profiles and content via NFTs. The company’s CEO Stani Kulechov believes that people need a new way of socializing virtually. In fact, we’ve all been using similar social media platforms during the past few years.
Recently, though, the web3 space has been expanding at lightspeed. Aave aims to use the latest technology, including NFTs, to offer more social experiences than Twitter:
“As seen from Elon Musk’s bid to purchase Twitter, people are ready for a better experience than what they’re used to. Ownership over not only the content you create online, but also your profile and social network is long overdue, and empowering users is what Lens aims to achieve”, the CEO said in a statement.
At this moment, Lens Protocol boasts several unique social applications. For example, users can enjoy Swapify, Peerstream, and Lenster – all built on the Polygon blockchain. In short,
Will Aave’s social platform become the new Twitter?
Lens Protocol will host a launch party on Twitter Spaces today at 2 pm EST. Therefore, it’s too early to tell whether Aave’s NFT-powered social platform will surpass Twitter.
Of course, Lens Protocol has some competitors in the web3 sector too. For example, the NFT marketplace Gamma will launch web3 social network soon.
Meanwhile, the web3 social media platform Playground also caught users’ eye recently. Nevertheless, all of the platforms allow us to explore new ways of socializing the web3 way.
