Jimmy Fallon went to Twitter today to show off his Moonbird collection from PROOF. Celebrities diving into Web3 is nothing new. Recent purchases from Justin Bieber and the all-out metaverse and NFT packs from Snoop Dogg have caused a mass of newcomers looking to make their name in NFTs. However, Jimmy Fallon’s acquirement of his MoonBirds differs from his celebrity companions.
Just a Marketing Stunt?
Considering Jimmy Fallon’s recent NFT purchases, the idea of Fallon paying thousands of dollars for a digital animal doesn’t sound too crazy. Nevertheless, PROOF has admitted to gifting certain celebrities their NFTs with a “no strings attached” approach. However, it’s interesting when considering the amount of marketing PR stunts the NFT industry has experienced.
So far, Fallon has tweeted about his Moonbirds twice, with the additional flair of changing his profile picture to one out of his collection. On April 19th, hours before Jimmy announced his Moonbird affiliation, Moonbirds sold for around $60,000. Less than two days later, the average price for a Moonbird on Opensea was about $110,000.
Following The Moonbirds Trail
The wallet that sent the two Moonbirds to Fallon is currently holding is right here on etherscan. By finding the same wallet on OpenSea, you can see the accounts of numerous amounts of moon birds as well as the title “Official Moonbirds company wallet.”. Furthermore, by tracing the address associated with Fallon’s supposed purchases, each Moonbird was transferred to his wallet for nothing more than a gas fee.
Considering all the provided information, all things point to Fallon’s acquirement of Moonbirds as nothing more than another marketing strategy. Harmless from the outside, the false information supplied that Jimmy Fallon purchased the Moonbirds as an investment. Anyone familiar with analytical investments knows better than following a celebrity’s wallet. However, these actions can create a swarm of panic buyers spending money solely based on the misinformation about Fallon’s purchases.
