Trezor hard wallet users are under threat from a rather complex phishing scam. In a worrying turn of events for Trezor, the hardware wallet experts, it appears they have suffered a security breach.
Currently, the company is investigating the phishing email, which impersonates the company and targets its clientele. Reportedly, this is possible through a data breach of its opt-in newsletter through the marketing platform MailChimp.
Significantly, it appears that the attack does not represent a threat to the overall security of the Trezor hard wallet.
How does this Trezor Hard wallet scam work?
Last week, Trezor users began to raise concerns about emails appearing to come from Trezor. The emails from [email protected] said that Trezor had a security breach. Additionally, it said users should click here, to address the issues.
What’s more, it told victims to download the “latest version of Trezor Suite”. It is unclear how many people have clicked on the link, but Trezor has acted quickly. The Trezor hard wallet is one of the safest crypto wallets, so this is a warning sign always to be careful.
Since users raised the issue, Trevor has successfully stopped several phishing websites, including the original scammers.
In a statement, Trezor, the hard wallet specialist, said, “MailChimp has confirmed that their service has been compromised by an insider targeting crypto companies,” Trezor said. “We have managed to take the phishing domain offline.”
Finally, this is the latest example of scams in the crypto and NFT world that are growing in number and are advancing in their methods.
