In celebration of International Transgender Day of Visibility, we would like to highlight some amazing trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming NFT artists. Of course, no matter the day, it’s always a good time to support these incredible artists!
A short background on Intl. Transgender Day of Visibility
Transgender Day of Visibility occurs every March 31st and is dedicated to celebrating transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people. The event was started by US-based transgender activist, Rachel Crandall, in 2009. The day aims not just to raise awareness around the discrimination that trans people face across the world, but also to celebrate their accomplishments and contributions.
To be sure, the NFT space faces the same issues as the rest of the world when it comes to different issues of representation. As such, here are nine trans or gender non-conforming NFT artists whose work you should be following.
Juno Cooper (she/her) @667R_
Juno is a Denver-based designer and artist who also does experimental work in illustration and photography. In particular, she’s a big fan of typography, glitched photography, and 3D art. She’s also the Head of Design at SK Forged and AURA Forged.
Juno creates some awesome NFTs on the Tezos blockchain, in part because of its affordability and low environmental impact. Check out links to her stunning work on her website.
Taylor Bystrom (he/him) @taylorbystrom
Taylor is an American, UK-based NFT artist who specializes in pop art and 3D paintings. He attained his Master of Fine Arts from the prestigious Goldsmiths, University of London – the school famously attended by artist Damien Hirst.
His work reflects upon his personal story of transitioning from female to male and provides relevant current political commentary. Indeed, since his transition, he has been committed to changing the way we talk about gender, sexuality, and psychedelics. Check out Taylor’s collection of NFT art on his OpenSea profile.
Aida Sancho aka Fat Baby (she/her) @fatbaby
Fat Baby is a Spanish, London-based, nonbinary NFT artist and creator of the Fat Baby Club. After first studying to be a primary school teacher, Fat Baby started to expand her skills as a freelance content creator in 2006. Her aesthetic features eye-catching, colorful artwork. The inspirations for her “juicy” illustrations come from cartoons, anime, and comic books.
She first got into the NFT space in early 2021 and has been a prolific creator, with works on both the Ethereum and Tezos blockchains. Some of her NFT collections include FatBaby, Cool Kidz Club, Clever Girls, and Raptor City Rascals.
Sky Goodman (they/them) @SkyGoodman4
Sky is a new media artist who makes mind-bending romantic and psychedelic landscapes in virtual reality. Indeed, much of their work, both still imagery and video, falls into the genre of glitch art. They are a self-described “poet of irrational architecture and dream-scapes”.
Their work is primarily on the Tezos blockchain but they also have works on Ethereum via marketplaces like OpenSea and Foundation. You can find links to their amazing pieces via their website.
Art Nomad (he/him) @art_no_mad
Art nomad is a transmasc figurative artist who displays his love of masculine beauty through his incredible paintings, which he sells as NFTs. His evocative use of form and color is how he captures emotions and desire in his artwork.
Aside from some stunning portraits, some of his NFT collections also feature whimsical, fantasy illustrations and graffiti-inspired abstract art. You can find links to his work here.
Laurel Charleston (they/them) @YannyCharleston
Laurel is a multidisciplinary artist based out of New York City. Their NFT art highlights breathtaking makeup art and photography, as best displayed in their Face Cards NFT collection. Their experience with makeup art first came through an exploration of drag performance while they attended Pennsylvania State University.
Laurel’s artistry developed through college and a subsequent move to New York City. Impressively, their work has since been featured in major outlets such as Harper’s Bazaar, the New York Times, and PAPER. Check out some of Laurel’s amazing work on their website.
Gossamer Rozen aka Greylysian (she/they) @grelysian
Grelysian is a trans, nonbinary, femme, Filipino/Black NFT artist based in New York City. Besides their acclaimed work in NFTs, they also create art in a number of mediums. To list, these include tattooing, digital media, and animations.
With that said, Grelysian has become a celebrated artist in the NFT space since they first entered it in March 2021. For one thing, they are the lead artist of the popular Woodies NFT collection. In addition, the artist contributed to the “Grails by PROOF Collective” NFT collection, along with other celebrated NFT artists. You can learn more about Grelysian’s awesome work on their website.
FEWOCiOUS (he/him) @fewocious
Without a doubt, FEWOCiOUS is one of the biggest NFT artists working today. FEWOCiOUS (who also goes by his name, Victor) describes his art as “snapshots of his memories and a mirror into his heart”. What’s more, art became a form of journaling for the NFT artist – a way to process his experience of growing up.
The 18-year-old NFT artist has taken the space by storm over the past year, with the floor price of his OpenSea collection of NFT art currently sitting at 1.8 ETH. In fact, he became the youngest artist ever to have an auction at Christie’s last year. More recently he announced his FewoWorld NFT project. You can learn more about this inspiring young artist here.
Dawnia Darkstone, AKA Letsglitchit (she/they) @letsglitchit
Letsglitchit has been at the forefront of non-coding-based glitch art for almost a decade. As a matter of fact, she is an esteemed member of the glitch art community, contributing a number of notes and techniques.
Dawnia’s work has been exhibited in London, Paris, Zagreb, San Francisco, and Minneapolis. She’s even been covered in Vice Magazine for her work turning images into sound and back again. You can learn more about Letsglitchit via her website and through her Discord server.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of all the talented trans and non-binary NFT artists that are out there. To that end, check out this Twitter list compiled by Letsglitchit.
We wish all of our trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming community a Happy Intl. Trans Day of Visibility!
