German professional racecar driver Laura-Marie Geissler launches the first-ever NFT-funded car racing team. Together with Amsterdam Berlin and Unblocked, she will launch the team called LMG GT No.1.
Laura-Marie Geissler Launch NFTs to Fund Female Motorsport Athletes
The NFT project aims to get funds for female motorsport athletes through NFT sales, instead of them relying solely on sponsors.
Most sportspeople, including football players and basketballers, get paid by their clubs for doing what they know. However, it’s not the same with motorsport where almost all athletes depend on external sponsors so that they can keep their careers afloat. The situation is especially more difficult for female racecar drivers. This is what Geiisler is trying to address via NFTs.
The LMG GT No.1 livery is based on the design of a race legend. Its skin bears the marks that beauty surgeons use for their operations. It symbolizes the pressure put on the physical appearance of female drivers. At the same time, a statement against the objectification of women in motorsports. The NFT is a call for gender equality in the racing world.
“I want to be seen for my driving, to be measured strictly by my performance,” said Laura-Marie Geissler, adding “Not by my private life, my looks, or the sponsors that I find or don’t find.”
The unique NFT set includes a 360° render of the livery, a high-res top shot of the design. The buyer’s name will also be on Laura-Marie’s real LMG GT No.1 race car. In addition, her signed Arai GP-6 helmet will be shipped to the winning bidder following the auction.
A series of 100 digital race suits and 1001 helmets with different variations and uniqueness are also available. All proceeds of the NFT sales will fund Geissler’s 2022 racing season.
