This week McLaren Automotive announced plans to release NFTs of its famous supercars. The British carmaker enlisted the help of Infinite World, a company that helps brands build out their metaverse and Web3 products. Significantly, this makes Infinite World the first official metaverse partner of the luxury car brand.
McLaren NFTs first product of Infinite World partnership
In essence, McLaren entered its new partnership in order to improve its customers’ digital experience. Of course, the centerpiece of this is that McLaren fans will be able to mint original NFTs of its supercars.
What’s more, these NFTs could also bring fans unique benefits that only buyers will be able to access. Evidently, McLaren will also launch a marketplace where fans can buy and sell the NFTs.
McLaren’s Chief Marketing Officer Gareth Dunsmore said of the new venture: “This exciting new partnership will draw on Infinite World’s leading expertise to create and offer a range of digital content on the McLaren marketplace.”
The new move from luxury carmaker broadens its Web3 exposure
While this is the first NFT play from McLaren Automotive, the brand is not completely new to NFTs. To illustrate, its F1 team got into the space midway through last year. Indeed, McLaren Racing launched an NFT platform on the Tezos blockchain back in June 2021. In addition, it later gave fans the option to build out their own digital racecar NFTs.
To be sure, McLaren is far from the first luxury car brand in the space. As a matter of fact, names like Lamborghini and Ferrari are just two other carmakers that have launched NFT projects in recent months. All in all, the automotive industry is one of many that have been quick to expand their reach into the rapidly growing NFT space.
