Great news for Web3 sneakerheads! Sketchers is opening a store in Decentraland. The top-three athletic footwear company has leased a 5,000-square foot space in DCL’s Fashion District.
According to Michael Greenberg, the president of Sketchers, the leasing agreement is their investment in Sketcher’s future. The company looks forward to engaging with its customers in a new way. They aim is to give them an immersive shopping experience in the metaverse.
A few weeks ago, the sneaker company trademarked many terms the brand uses for Web3. The trademark includes terms such as “downloadable computer software for interactive games” and “downloadable virtual goods.”
Greenberg and the other Sketchers executive didn’t share when their store in Decentraland would be open.
Even if there is no public timetable for the project, Sketchers leasing land in the metaverse is a big move that puts them ahead of other companies who wants to join the Web3. Many have filed trademark applications but only a few have done anything concrete.
More Brands Extends “Customer Experience” to Web3
Sketchers is not the first brand to set up their company’s virtual space. For instance, Gucci bought their property at The Sandbox. Miller Lite also has a virtual bar in DCL where users can play darts and billiards, watch games, and order beers.
Even McDonald’s has their aspirations to combine the physical with virtual experience for their customers. They want to let you order food in the metaverse and then deliver it to your door.
As more companies and artists create their metaverse properties in the future, we can only guess and look forward to what experiences they will provide.
