After MetaSphere NFT Discord Is Hacked, Founders Offer No Sympathy

Discord hacks are becoming extremely common these days, and it is definitely no fun being on the receiving end. Ex-MetaSphere fan and follower, Ryan Devitt, claimed to have fallen for this phishing attack. On the day of the hack, the Discord member saw a post indicating that MetaSphere has collaborated with Mammeths to drop a Mammeths x Sphere collection. The post directed members to a malicious site, tricking them to buy fake Mammeths.

MetaSphere Discord Hack

Last month, the hackers took over the MammEths and MetaSphere Discord accounts for a short while, but enough to cause significant damages. The hackers tried to lure members to a malicious website where they will be waiting to extract funds from the naive members. In addition, they deleted several channels and also removed a large number of members from the Discord.

In all honesty, the post did contain glaring errors such as typos and grammatical errors. For instance, EXCLUSIVE and MammEths were not spelled correctly. Also, the website being used for minting is very unprepared, unlike the real website which has plenty of project information. In any case, the MetaSphere team refuses to hold any responsibilities since they did not cause the losses.

According to Ryan Devitt, the MetaSphere team blamed him for minting the fake NFTs when the MetaSphere NFTs were clearly not released yet. Moreover, they also accused him for being the hacker that hacked the MetaSphere Discord. Ryan was subsequently kicked out of the Discord, with no compensation and no sympathy. It is no surprise that victims may regard them as scammers that are conducting fraudulent activities.

To be fair, every project handles such events differently. After the Discord hack, the MammEths team immediately issued a press release to apologize for the unfortunate event. Besides that, Animoca Brands reassured their community that they will cover the losses in their Phantom Galaxies’ Discord hack. Therefore, it is a bit shocking to see Insider, the leader, react so harshly to the community members.

MetaSphere

The MetaSphere NFT collection features 3,333 3D cyborgs that are part of a play-to-earn game in the metaverse. The team is also working towards bringing the NFTs into The Sandbox. Currently, there are 1.5k NFTs and the floor price is sitting at 0.01 ETH.

By the way, Ryan is not the only person accusing the project of being a rug pull. It also does not help their case that their Twitter account has not been active since 21 February. On the bright side, Insider promises to compensate all victims of the Discord hack. Besides, he also apologized for his recent inactivity. He finds it hard to focus as his homeland, Ukraine, is constantly being attacked. Additionally, the team will release a detailed statement with regards to the incident.
