A Twitter user is pretending to be a Bored Ape Yacht Club co-founder to scam NFT collectors and enthusiasts! Here’s the catch: it is a verified account! So keep an eye out for @ProDutaFC because he is not affiliated with the blue-chip NFT collectible in any way, shape or form. Don’t fall for his tricks or you’ll end up losing your NFTs.
Scammer Alert: Fake Bored Ape Founder on Twitter
NFT influencer @foxslightly posted a thread on Twitter to alert the NFT community about the fake BAYC co-founder. He also tagged the account of Twitter’s verified blue badge source in an effort to have the account flagged.
The thread quickly got the attention of the crypto Twitter and users have been responding with screenshots of their conversations with @ProDutaFC. It appears that he is trying to lure unsuspecting BAYC holders into connecting their wallets to their site for a variety of reasons. Then, if you fall for the trick, you’ll end up signing away your assets via a malicious contract.
One of @ProDutaFC‘s schemes is to ask if the NFT holder is willing to try a BAYC derived project and leave a short feedback. The request is paired with a grand promise that the reward for participation is a serum. This part should already stop you on your tracks because the current floor price of BAYC Serums is 10 ETH or around $28,000. So there’s no way that the project will just randomly give it away in exchange for feedback.
The Twitter account was created way back in January 2010. Meanwhile, the majority of the followers are inactive. What’s alarming is that it has over 8300 followers already, including a few big names like @jeremyfall.
Moral of the story: don’t be a victim! The usernames of the REAL founders of Bored Ape Yacht Club are Gordon Goner and Gargamel. In real life, they are Wylie Aronow and Greg Solano, respectively.
