Indian IT multinational Infosys launched a new business division, metaverse foundry, to help enterprises take advantage of emerging technologies. The global leader in digital services and IT consultancy hopes to drive digital innovation through its Discover-Create-Scale cycle.
Infosys’ Metaverse Foundry
The metaverse foundry will help businesses enter the metaverse through its more than 100 ready-to-use templates and use cases. In addition, it can be leveraged as a maker space to bridge the physical-digital worlds. Companies would have access to AR/VR, Blockchain, NFT, IoT, Applied AI, cybersecurity and 5G resources to help them create value in the virtual world.
For example, the most popular template for many large enterprises is for setting up an immersive retail experience. It enables shoppers to explore a branded metaverse environment and buy products as NFTs. The template also connects to an online checkout counter so users can make purchases and receive them in the real world.
The President of Infosys, Ravi Kumar S, shared the company’s main motivation in launching the metaverse foundry. He noted that “The physical and virtual worlds are already smoothly and ubiquitously interwoven. The metaverse will deepen this overlap and in very experiential ways that will create abundant space for business innovation.”
This is where Infosys comes in. He added, “We want to help our clients to quickly double down on those opportunities in a find-fast, learn-faster environment.” In effect, businesses would have the on-demand ability to create their own metaverse environment and deliver signature experiences securely.
Traction So Far
Infosys shared that various brands, enterprises and even longstanding events have taken advantage of their services. For example, a leading pharmaceutical with the Infosys XR platform created a digital twin of their vaccine lab.
It also helped Tennis Australia during the Australian Open 2021 by providing an extended digital-physical store and helping the fans reimagine the shopping experience. Basically, they made it possible for tennis fans to virtually shop for all their favorite items. Then, carry their haul back to the real world. Tees, beach towels, caps, and racquets were up for grabs.
Korey Allchin, Director of Partnership & International Business, Tennis Australia, was delighted with the collaboration. He highlighted the seamless digital-physical connection that helped them evolve their gan experience.
Meanwhile, construction and mining equipment maker Komatsu is also using the metaverse Foundry. The company is confident that Infosys will help them “uncover the most significant investment” that they should make today to make them future-ready.
