Opera, the creator of the popular Opera web browser, has announced an integration with Ethereum’s Layer 2 exchange DeversiFi. This will allow for cheap and instant transactions within the Opera mobile browser wallet.
This is a step forward in Opera’s strategy to make cryptocurrency more mainstream. In 2018, Opera became the first browser to include a built-in crypto wallet and dApp explorer. After that, the company integrated more blockchains such as Bitcoin, Celo, and others. Simultaneously, they introduced very simple fiat-to-crypto on-ramps and brought crypto capabilities to its desktop and iOS browsers.
What to expect from Opera Browser’s Layer 2 integration?
StarkWare’s groundbreaking StarkEx scalability engine backs DeversiFi, which makes Layer 2 transactions 100 times faster and cheaper than Ethereum Layer 1. As a result, Opera will be able to eliminate high transaction fees and offer instant trading to millions of its mobile users.
To begin transacting with Layer 2 :
- Install the beta version of Opera for Android
- go to settings
- open the crypto wallet feature
- activate the L2 card there
Besides, users can deposit fiat or ETH directly from their Layer 1 wallets (via Moonpay). Moreover, they can easily swap and transfer tokens directly in the wallet, thanks to DeversiFi’s technology. Currently, Ethereum Layer 2 is available in the Opera browser for the Android beta version, which can be downloaded here. In the near future, the Opera Crypto Browser Project will also integrate Layer 2 solutions.
For the uninitiated, Layer 2 refers to a group of solutions that help scale applications, reduce transaction times, and lower transaction costs, making them more user- and environmentally friendly. Whereas Ethereum 2.0 will bring these benefits to the entire Ethereum blockchain. Today’s Layer 2 Zero-Knowledge solutions are designed to handle transactions outside of the Ethereum mainnet while still utilizing the Layer 1 settlement and security model.
