Famous artist Takashi Murakami is releasing a collection of Flower NFTs this month. The Murakami NFT collection of 11,664 flowers marks the artist’s iconic artwork.
The date is unknown, but it is coming this spring. Without a doubt, it will be interesting to see what Murakami comes up with and how the project grows. There is even a primary roadmap.
Takashi Murakami – The contemporary art icon
Takashi Murakami is a famous Japanese artist. His bright Flowers design blurs the lines between high and low art. His artwork costs a high price on art markets. The prints sell for thousands, and an original painting fetches millions at auction.
Although you may not recognise the man himself, his Flowers motif is identifiable. Along with being an art success, Flowers has found its way into the fashion industry. The unique bright flowers artwork first emerged in 1995 and is now a giant fashion logo. Thus, it has had a notable effect on the industry. Murakami has worked with Louis Vuitton, Vans and Supreme, etc.
Now, Murakami is taking on the NFT world. Not to mention, Flowers has also taken on the music world. The motif appeared on a Kanye West album cover, Drake clothing, and a Billie Eilish video.
What to expect from the Murakami NFT collection
Murakami aimed to launch his collection on March 31, 2021. But, after only 11 days, he pulled the images from Opensea. He revealed he was shelving the project until further notice to learn more about NFTs and the broader space first. At the time, NFT mania was rising, so it is clear that Murakami isn’t in this for monetary gain.
Since then, Murakami has spent time in the NFT space learning about the technology. In October, Murakami accepted an invitation to work alongside RTFKT, the virtual fashion group, on an NFT project. The collection of 20,000 NFTs launched in December.
It was a huge success and inspired Murakami to continue his project. He states, “I gained a lot of knowledge through the collaboration, and I am still learning a lot from them.”
Murakami NFT contains a hidden message.
MURAKAMI.FLOWERS is a collection of 11,664 Flowers. Meanwhile, Murakami said that 108 is a keyword in a Twitter post. He said, “A combination of 108 backgrounds and flower colours make up a field, and there are 108 fields”.
Each field has 108 flower images, meaning there are 11,664 flower images in total. 108 references the Buddhist concept of bonnō (earthly temptations).
Meanwhile, the project has a roadmap. These marks include clothing, bags, cookies, and games. In summary, the roadmap has 16 points, including a gallery and a museum. Finally, we look ahead to the launch and will keep you updated.
