McDonald’s Is Preparing For Metaverse Restaurants And NFTs

McDonald’s is entering the metaverse by registering ten trademarks in virtual space. Trademark attorney Josh Gerben noted the filing, tweeting that McDonald’s had submitted the trademark applications on February 4th.

The McDonald’s filings, listed on February 4, request to trademark, among other things, “Operating a virtual restaurant featuring actual and virtual goods,” and “operating a virtual restaurant online featuring home delivery.”

Interestingly, one of the applications was for ‘operating a virtual restaurant featuring actual and virtual goods’. Meanwhile, the other one was for ‘virtual restaurant online with home delivery.’

What’s more? In its metaverse trademark application, the fast-food brand also included its McCafe brand. It intends to trademark “online actual and virtual concerts” as well as other entertainment services within its virtual McCafe. This will allow the virtual destination to host various concerts or celebrity appearances, which are becoming increasingly popular nowadays.

Well, McDonald’s isn’t the only company attempting to enter the metaverse. Panera Bread, an American bakery-cafe chain, recently filed a similar trademark application for a virtual restaurant and cafe chain called ‘Paneraverse.’

McDonald’s appears to be joining other companies and big brands such as Nike, Walmart, Adidas, and others in preparing for the virtual world or metaverse explosion. Likewise, it’s possible that as the metaverse grows in popularity and more people enter virtual space. Moreover, we’ll see virtual avatars going to a virtual McDonald’s and ordering food as an in-game activity.
