UFC is set to release NFTs titled UFC Strike, through Dapper Labs who have been behind NBA Topshot and NFL All Day. These new collectibles from the emerging sport will be available to fans from January 23rd.
About UFC NFTs coming via Dapper Labs
Originally, on January 23rd at 2 PM EST/11 AM EST, UFC Strike will launch at first an open drop of 200,000 total packs, similarly to the drop systems of NBA Topshot and NFL All Day. UFC Strike will start with a first-round of 100,000 fully-loaded packs which consist of 3 moments.
These NFTs will include action shots which include multiple camera angles, announcer commentary and crowd response from actual fights. Notably, the crowd noise is a Dapper Labs first which they haven’t included in previous projects. Each UFC Strike NFT is designed to “capture, memorialize and celebrate” instances of UFC history.
In order to gain access to the open drop, users should visit ufcstrike.com and join the queue to purchase a pack for $50 USD. As the site and project develop, there will be more drops that include moments specific to the ongoing UFC calendar.
Similarly to Dapper’s previous projects, there will be added features like a peer-to-peer marketplace for fans to buy and sell any moments which are available in packs.
To note, for the first time, fans of the UFC will be able to purchase officially licensed NFTs from the organisation. Fans have been patiently waiting for months for this project to release. We have been teased for a while in order to build hype for the large project.
Dapper Labs seem to be the perfect partner for this project after their successful previous involvement with the NBA and NFL.
About the UFC
The Ultimate Fighting Championship, more commonly known as the UFC is an American mixed martial arts promotion company based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. They were founded in 1993 by Art Davie and Rorion Gracie, then later bought by the Fertitta brothers in 2001. It was later purchased in 2016 by an investment group led by WWE/IMG. Now, with the president in Dana White, MMA has grown to be a major sport all around the world.
Their major fighters include Conor McGregor, Jon Jones, Khabib Nurmagomedov and more. These fighters have gained millions of followers on social media and become mainstream celebrities in their own right.
Recently, YouTuber and Boxer, Jake Paul has been in ‘beef’, with the UFC and particularly Dana White. This has further enhanced the popularity and eyes on the company and sport. Significantly, Paul has requested to fight many UFC fighters in a boxing match including Conor McGregor. Dana has said no, and Jake Paul has proceeded to call White and the organisation “chickens”, among other things.
