Yesterday, electronic duo The Chainsmokers set CryptoTwitterers’ tongues wagging after expressing interest in NFTs. Their cryptic tweet left CryptoTwitter and Chainsmokers fans wondering whether the duo is releasing an NFT drop soon.
Who are The Chainsmokers?
The Chainsmokers are Alexander “Alex” Pall and Andrew “Drew” Taggart. The EDM-pop duo broke the charts with their 2014 hit “# Selfie.” Since then, they have gone from strength to strength; with three successful albums and countless collaborations under their belt.
In 2020, The Chainsmokers announced they’re on hiatus from social media so that they can focus on their next chapter in music. However, in recent months, they have repeatedly used social media to tease that a new album is in the works. This NFT-related tweet could very much be part of their upcoming album’s promotional campaign.
Can we expect an NFT project from the DJ duo anytime soon?
Given the popularity of NFTs in the DJ community, it is safe to say that a Chainsmokers NFT project or collaboration is very likely!
Another key point is that the DJ duo was initially signed to Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak label and have worked closely with him in the past. As everyone involved in the NFT space knows, Steve Aoki is a big fan of NFTs.
He was one of the early adopters of NFTs and now has a significant NFT collection worth approximately $3.15 million. He is also the co-founder of Oddkey – a new NFT marketplace that puts artists in control of their digital art and allows fans to resell NFTs at little cost. Could a Steve Aoki-Chainsmokers NFT drop be in the works? We sure do hope so!
